Academically, Neelam studied in Pakistan up to the BA level until she moved to the
UK in the mid 70s.  While in Pakistan she began working with the women in her home
city ensuring their physical and mental health was being catered to through discussions
and focus groups as well as one-on-one befriending.

In the UK, Neelam achieved A-level and vocational qualifications and is now the holder
of an Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, having studied in both Islamic
and Humanistic Integrative Counselling.  She is an experienced Counsellor who uses
various models of Counselling when working with clients according to their needs. She
has studied Islamic Counselling for many years and is very skilful in transferring those
faith based skills in to the client setting regardless of their way of being or their belief
system.  Since the 70s she has continued to befriend and counsel men, women and
young people of all backgrounds in the UK.

Neelam’s history in therapeutic services is as long as her life and, during this time,
she has worked with a plethora of organisations and individuals – she is currently
working for the following organisations:

The Listening Service          Founder of telephone based listening service for women
                                        of all backgrounds

LINK Counselling Service     A counselling service for the young

Neelam also holds teaching qualifications.  She has tutored for both English and Urdu
and continues to tutor on issues that affect women in the local community, writing
articles for discussion at such sessions – some of these can be found on our news page.
She has long worked with a number of organisations that are close to her
heart – e.g. the Breast Screening Service, ENT and Casualty at Edgware Hospital, and
Cancer Research – and has also worked with various counselling agencies and with the
Metropolitan Police in bridging the gap between the Police and the local communities
around London.

Neelam has also held advisory positions on management committees - such as being
Vice Chair of the Women’s Development Trust – and, being a keen sportswoman
herself, she is currently a trusted adviser for the Muslim Women’s Sport Foundation
(www.mwsf.org.uk), a nationwide organisation that seeks to train Muslim women
in sports and identify elite talent to compete at international tournaments.
